Born in ’69 by Lyra Fiske

Standard

Born in ‘69
A foot stepped in moon dust
And breaths were held
As all stood on the edge of something great
Half a million gathered in a meadow
And breaths were held
As hope took the stage

A new dawn perhaps
Or more doom ahead
We swung toward brotherly love
Then back again

Inheriting troubles as Ozzy said
The worst generation emerged
With an X on our foreheads
Branded like Manson

Our parents began the decline, it was said
And we followed

Our hopes were silly
Our shattered dreams weren’t real
We rose like a phoenix from the ashes
Only to fall again

But we were neither the beginning
Nor the end

And the pendulum swings
Back and forth
As we all hold our breath

About quarryhillcreativecenterVT

I am the daughter of the founders of Quarry Hill Creative Center in Rochester, VT. I've been a writer all my life, and also love to draw in pastel, like my mother. My father taught me to write and many other things (rather as Prospero taught Miranda). I learned many things from my mother too-- not just how to draw, but how to be caring and kind to animals and things that can not protect themeselves. "They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain." That has been her central point of view and is one of Quarry Hill's mottos. We welcome visitors, love children, and have places to rent and sell if anyone wants to come live in the beauty of the Vermont Mountains. ladybellefiske@gmail.com
